Pursuing a Patients-First Pharmacy Future.

Good Shepherd Medication Management – also known as Good Shepherd Health – is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving medication accessibility for patients across the United States. It does so through three programs aimed at addressing key barriers to prescription treatments: high costs; a broken pharmacy industry; and wasted medication.

Disheartened by the number of patients who abandoned necessary prescriptions at the pharmacy counter due to their cost, pharmacist Phil Baker envisioned a better way. In 2015, he founded Good Shepherd Pharmacy to provide medications at-cost or free to its members. Over time, Good Shepherd grew, launching the RemediChain medication reclamation program in 2018 and the Good Shepherd Health Institute advocacy program in 2024.

Today, Good Shepherd is a strong voice in the movement to put patients first. Scroll to learn more.

Medication
Rescue

Each year in the United States, an estimated $11 billion worth of medication is destroyed, and 20% of filled prescriptions are thrown away. At the same time, tens of millions of Americans cannot afford their necessary medication.

RemediChain aims to change that by rescuing unused, unexpired, good condition medication to share with patients in need. Since 2018, the program has legally reclaimed and safely dispensed tens of millions of dollars worth of unused medication. Learn more at DonateMyMeds.org

Advocacy

Building on the shared mission of its sister organizations to build a patients-first pharmacy future, Good Shepherd Health Institute is a collaborative, informational hub for pharmacists, patients, providers, payers and advocates who seek to improve health care by putting patients first. We freely share insightful journalism, expert commentary and informational research to shed light on the issues facing our pharmaceutical and health care industries today. But GSHI was not built in a day. It’s the result of the hard work and dedication of our founders and employees. To learn more, visit GoodShepHealthInstitute.org.

Good Shepherd Medication Management is a nonprofit with a mission to heal the broken pharmaceutical industry; support a system that puts patients first; and improve medication accessibility for all Americans. We look forward to the day when all patients can access the medications they need, regardless of cost; when unused prescription drugs are shared as a resource, not thrown away as waste; and when patients – not corporations – have the power to choose their pharmacy.
